My review of the candidates
*Rudy - On the one hand, he'll have supporters b/c of the way he turned around NYC before the 9/11 and his handling of it. But, he'll be hard for southerners and evangelicals to get behind, b/c of his positions on abortion and taxes and illegals and the way in which he distances. And the fighting back and fourth between he and Mitt is a bit distasteful.
*John - John's very popular with independents, but not really with Republicans. People respect him b/c of his service in Vietnam (as we should), but we're not "inspired" by him, as he's a business-as-usual, Washington elitist insider.
*Fred - Fred seems to want people to seek him out, say "gee - I wonder what Fred thinks about 'x'". That puts people off, b/c many feel like ("listen - if you don't want the job, don't bother running."). The question of "does he even want the job" really isn't a question the country asks of the person they eventually elect president.
*Ron - Ron's got his supporters, but let's be honest....The doom and gloom message, the isolationism, the constant negativity on the war - never happen. Not with an 'R' next to his name.
*Mitt - Mitt's largest liability is that he doesn't appear genuine. It's partly due to his demeanor and appearance and partly due to the discrepancy between his current and past positions. Having said, I think he is a trust-worthy man and would probably make a fine president.
*Mike - Basically -> The Fairtax appeals to many regular-guy fiscal conservatives (despite what the elitist "authors" and intellectuals say about it) and his Christian ideals (anti-abortion, the whole evolution thing, etc..) appeal to the evangicals. However - he's not on board with full school choice and that's a problem for many of us. His record in AK is a problem (the paroles, the tax increases and most importantly - the in-state tuition for illegals).
*Duncan - no name recognition, poor presence. Actually unfortunate, because it's hard to beat him on ideas, principles, experience and I don't think he has big negatives in his past.
*Tom - stutters on himself too much, just not a presidential figure. Appears to be very smart - probably a great VP.
